Counsellor & Psychotherapist in Surrey

Grace Buchanan, BA (Hons), MBACP

Hello, and a warm welcome to Grace Buchanan Therapy, I'm really glad you're here. I'm a registered member of the British Association of Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their code of ethics and safe practice.

Sometimes a major life change or period of crisis can prompt us to consider counselling. Life can often bring experiences that feel overwhelming, painful, or confusing. Sometimes these struggles show up as stress, anxiety, depression, or low mood. At other times, we might simply feel ready to explore ourselves more deeply. Therapy can be helpful at any stage of life, whether you'd like to better understand your thoughts and feelings, improve your relationships, find clarity, or have a space to talk and be heard, I'm here for you. Talking through what’s troubling you in a safe, confidential, and professional space is often the first step toward healing and change.

Counselling, with me, offers a calm, confidential environment where you can pause, reflect, and explore what's working for you and what might need to change. My role is to listen, understand, and support you in exploring the thoughts, feelings, and behaviours that may be holding you back. Together, we can work at your pace towards greater clarity, self-awareness, and personal growth.

As an integrative-relational counsellor, I draw on both humanistic and psychodynamic approaches, tailoring therapy to your unique needs. I offer a warm, compassionate, and non-judgemental space where we can build a trusting relationship that supports you in exploring both past and present experiences.

I provide both short- and long-term therapy, depending on what feels right for you. Change is not always easy, it can bring uncertainty before it brings relief, but therapy offers the chance to uncover new insight, let go of unhelpful patterns, and move towards a future filled with greater freedom, meaning, and hope.

What to Expect from Therapy

  • A safe, confidential, and supportive space to share what’s on your mind.
  • The opportunity to explore unhelpful patterns and understand where they come from.
  • Greater clarity, resilience, and self-confidence.
  • Relief from distressing symptoms such as anxiety, low mood, or feelings of being “stuck.”

My Approach

My approach is warm and down to earth, I value each person's individuality and the unique experiences that shape who you are. We all develop ways of seeing ourselves and relating to others based on our upbringing, life experiences, and environment. Sometimes these patterns serve us well; other times they can limit us, keeping us stuck in unhelpful cycles. My approach to the therapeutic process is to help you bring these patterns into awareness so that you can challenge old beliefs, make conscious choices, and create new ways of being that feel more authentic and empowering.
